Weston St Johns go top of the league after their latest victory.

Worle 0 Wells City 0

THIS was a clash of the only two unbeaten teams in the division and as such proved a close affair.

Worle gave a debut to Mike Hodrien and recalled Evans to partner Hodrien up front. This was mainly a midfield battle with Wells City looking dangerous on set pieces, but the back three of Harvey, Clements and Downs coped well with a lively Wells attack.

With Jon Crandon playing his first game of the season after his ban, he partnered Jon McCabe and Ollie Clements in the centre of midfield, with Hewish reverting to play on the right.

The second half mirrored the first, Wells did have the ball in the back of the net, but this was ruled offside. Matt Hill in the home goal was rarely troubled all afternoon and both goalkeepers had a quiet game which was well refereed by Robin Connelly.

Man of the match was Jon McCabe. Match ball sponsor: Avenue Cleaners.

Brislington Res 2

SAINTS went top of the Somerset County League Division 1 with this hard-fought victory over a strong Brislington side.

Saints started the brighter of the two teams with Mark Adams and James Wotton winning the midfield battle. Brislington almost took the lead when they hit the post and Saints scrambled the rebound away.

Brislington gave away a series of free kicks and it was from one of these that Saints took the lead. Calum McManus’s well flighted kick was headed down by Juzzy Flavell and forced over the line by Ross Stockhall.

Saints defenders Nick Jones, Dean Pierson, Mitchum Smit, James Bennellick and Andy Llewellyn all played well and frustrated the Brislington forwards. The Brislington keeper made outstanding saves to deny Stockhall, Flavell and McManus, but Saints doubled their lead when Jack Clark found Flavell, who scored.

Saints struggled to get going in the second half and gifted Brislington two goals which gave keeper Ian Allchorne no chance. Brislington had the momentum now and Allchorne had to make some good saves to keep the scores level.

It took a moment of individual skill from Stockhall to put Saints back in front after he beat three defenders. The goal settled Saints down and Flavell and Ryan Hodrien forced the keeper to make good saves.

The final goal came when a long diagonal pass from Jones found McManus and he beat a defender before crossing to the unmarked Stockhall to complete his hat-trick.

Bookers Wholesale player of the match was Ross Stockhall.
