Festive headwear replaced bobble hats, trolleys accessorized with tinsel and Christmas jumpers a plenty could all been seen on the course for the annual Ladies Christmas Fun Day in aid of the Captain's Charities last week.

Joined by members of the Senior Section eight teams took to the course for a 15-hole scramble with some additional challenges thrown in along the way.

Topping the charts to be this year's Christmas number one was the team of Sue Wright, Chris Fairchild and Jeff Milton who returned a nett score of 41 just holding off the trio of Eileen Parnell, Brian Read and Tony Spencer. Third place on the day went to Debbie Windmill, Brian Reeves and Bill Marlow.

A special thanks go to Ladies Captain Elect Beverly Cranley for organising the event and to members of both the Ladies and Senior sections for donating the prizes for the day as well as the raffle.

Their support raised £120 for this year’s Captain's charities.

The final Seniors fixture of the calendar year was completed a couple of days later with their Christmas Fayre Scramble taking place.

The weather was dry, calm and unseasonably warm for mid December as the seven three ball teams tackled the one drive Texas Scramble format.

Coming out on top at the end of the day with a nett 58 was the trio of Ian Rogers, Kevin Davies and Nigel Trickey.

For Trickey it was his last event as a Brean member before he moves away from the area at the turn of the year and he combined with Rogers and Davies to record the lowest gross score of the day as well with their score of 67.

Runners-up just one shot further back was Fairchild, Mats Mattsson and Graham Exton and they were also one clear of two teams who posted 60. The John Cranley/Tony Higgins/Ken Ponter combination claimed third after a successful countback outcome with the team of Barry Fellows, Brian Reeves and Tim Amy settling for fourth.
