Frome Collegians 0

Wrington Redhill 0

THIRD-placed Frome entertained Wrington Redhill in another top of the table Division 1 clash.

The first chance fell on 10 minutes to Wrington’s Craig Burchill, but his shot was pushed round the post by home keeper. The next 20 minutes saw both sides sharing chances, but the half remained goal-less.

The second half began with Wrington possession leading to a Burchill shot over the bar. Wrington began to dominate possession, but the Frome back line held firm.

The game became a tense and competitive encounter, but Wrington could not penetrate the home defence as the match ended 0-0.

Man of the match was Chris Holland.

Uphill Castle 2

Staplegrove 2

UPHILL were the better side in the early stages of this top of the table clash.

With Mike Deane and Jack Askins winning the midfield battle, chances came for Paul Wray, Matt Bebber and Jordan Elliot. Defenders Lewis Smith, Joe Boon, Josh Thorne and David Long were coping well, but Staplegrove took the lead against the run of play, giving keeper Mark Rawlins no chance.

Uphill went close through Long and Askins, but Deane set Scott Muirhead free, only to be brought down by the keeper. Askins netted the penalty to make it 1-1 at the break.

After the break, a good move involving Deane and Bebber was superbly finished off by Wray to give Uphill a 2-1 lead. Staplegrove searched for an equaliser and were denied by Rawlins on two separate occasions, but he was powerless to prevent the Staplegrove equaliser.

The Old Thatched Cottage player of the match was Mike Deane.

Winscombe 3

Nailsea Utd Res 1

WINSCOMBE extended their unbeaten run to eight games as they defeated Nailsea United Reserves courtesy of a second hat-trick in seven days by Rob Winter.

Winscombe went ahead after six minutes when a punt downfield by keeper Tim Page eluded the defenders and Winter stroked it past the keeper. They went further ahead when Page again kicked downfield, only this time Winter brilliantly brought the ball down, skipped past two defenders and slotted home.

The home side were denied a penalty when Hughes was brought down, but the referee awarded a goal kick. This ultimately led to Nailsea scoring, as from the kick, a rare slip from Hooper and Heal, let the centre forward in.

Stoves Flint and Willis were at the heart of everything as the home side started the second half, but it was Page who set up Winter for his eighth goal in three games.

Winscombe Fish Bar man of the match was Rob Winter.

The annual dinner and presentation evening is on Saturday at the club, 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
