Wrington Redhill caused an upset in the Atwell Shield to reach the semi-final stages of the cup.

Yatton Ath Res 1

Wrington Redhill Res 2

DIVISION 4 Wrington caused an upset when they overcame Division 1 opponents Yatton Reserves, to progress to the semi-final stages of the Atwell Shield.

Yatton took the lead in the 30th minute, but Wrington equalised five minutes later through striker Mick Edmunds as the sides went into the break all square.

In the second half, the home side had the advantage of the wind but this seemed to work in Wrington’s favour as both their wide men Joe Moore and Tom Johnson began seeing more of the ball.

It was Edmunds who put Wrington into the lead on the hour. The Wrington defence then held firm as they dealt with attacks from the home side and ran out winners in this keenly-contested contest.

Wrington’s Bristol City Construction man of the match award went to Dan Burnett.

Westend 1

Shipham 3

SHIPHAM bounced back from last week’s poor result with a much improved performance, inflicting defeat on Westend, the only unbeaten team in the league.

Shipham started with a great hunger and desire, and took the lead after just four minutes when a long-range Kyle Hobden effort was spilled by the goalkeeper leaving Matty Hollow a tap in.

Shipham extended their lead when Hollow put Chris Green through and he put in a great ball across the box to allow Jon Rowsell to tuck away from close range to make it 2-0 at the break.

Westend tried to assert themselves more in the second half, but never really put Shipham under much pressure. They got a goal back when they scored from a direct free-kick which flew straight into the top corner.

Shipham kept going and got their third goal late on to seal the win. A long Kyle Hobden ball over the top found Green, who knocked the ball on for Hollow to head over the stranded keeper.

Jamie White was narrowly beaten to the man of the match award by Tom Layton.

AFC Nailsea 1

Worle Rangers 8

RANGERS powered their way to a resounding victory in this Division 3 clash.

Rangers dominated this game right from the first whistle and within 15 minutes were two up after a Dugmore brace. Nailsea’s direct game asked questions of the Rangers’ back-line, but Williams, Hannam, Earey and Shane Quick were on form, backed up by keeper Hockey.

Les Quick and McConnachie won the battle in midfield and Stephens’ pace up front was causing mayhem, with invention behind from Dugmore, Liddiard and Lester. The third came from Lester with a classy clip over the keeper from the edge of the area. Stephens was sent clear by a long ball from Williams and he made it four before McConnachie’s scored the fifth.

After the break, Stephens crossed for Liddiard to make it 6-0. Nailsea responded with a fine goal of their own, but shortly after Stephens scored a deserved second to make it 7-1.

There was still time for Knight to score with a calmly struck penalty the final goal.

Earey was faultless at centre-back, Lester showed good composure in forward areas, but the Curry Garden man of the match went to Jamie Stephens.
