Wrington Redhill Reserves defeated Nailsea United Colts to reach the semi-finals of the Vardon Cup.

Nailsea United Colts 2

Wrington Redhill Res 2

(Wrington won 5-3 on penalties)

WRINGTON went through to the Vardon Cup semi-final after a victory in a penalty shoot-out.

With Nailsea top and Wrington in second place in Division 4, it was always going to be a close game. Wrington were slow to get going and Nailsea took the lead on the 20 minute mark.

At the start of the second half, Nailsea increased their lead, giving Wrington keeper Jean-Luc Rouvaris no chance. Manager Julian Moss introduced Louie Rouvaris into midfield and this sparked the start of the comeback as Wrington started to create chances.

Joe Moore pulled one back in the 80th minute and with the visitors putting their opponents on the back foot, Nick Curtis grabbed the equaliser with five minutes remaining and forced extra time.

Both sides created half chances throughout the extra period, but they both looked evenly matched and it was down to the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Wrington penalty takers Nick Buck, Nick Curtis and Louie Rouvaris all scored and Jean-Luc Rouvaris pulled off a great save on Nailseas third penalty to give Wrington the advantage.

James Marshall and Dan McMullan calmly stepped up to send Wrington through.

Wedmore 2

Shipham 4

SHIPHAM got back to winning ways with an impressive away performance at Wedmore.

Shipham took the lead after just three minutes when great interplay between Hobden and Green allowed Green to set up Matty Hollow to score. They extended the lead when Alex MacLucas netted from 25 yards out.

Wedmore got one back on the half-hour mark, but Shipham responded within a minute to make it 3-1. Keeper Hughes kicked the ball upfield, the Wedmore defenders were unable to clear the ball allowing Hollow to double his tally for the game.

Wedmore got one back just after the break when a good cross was headed into the far corner, but Shipham extended their lead to two goals again when good interplay between Hobden and Green allowed Green to set substitute Ali Shears through to score the fourth.

Man of the match went to Kyle Hobden and a notable mention goes to Tom Layton.

Worle Rangers 0

Uphill Castle Res 1

RANGERS were on the receiving end of their second league defeat of the season in this Division 3 encounter.

With the wind behind them in the first-half, Rangers put the visitors under pressure, but could not find the breakthrough, despite chances for Les Quick and Nutt.

Uphill create half-chances themselves, but found Jakeman in fine form with Milsom, Williams, Shane Quick and Brown protecting and defending well. James Nutt nearly opened the scoring after breaking clear but the ball ran out of play.

After the break, Worle were restricted to limited breakaways. Just as the game was looking like being goalless, Uphill got a break in the Worle area from a set piece and the ball looped into the corner.

A disappointing result for Worle, but they still remain in a strong position in the table. Brown fought well and Jakeman was immaculate with his handling, while Hannam’s commitment was superb, but the Curry Garden player of the match went to James Nutt.
