THIS week, Uphill A, B and C teams were all in league action with two wins and a loss.

The A team played a local derby match against Wyvern A and won by nine rubbers to nil. The team of Paul Edwards, Becky Matthews, Mark Edwards, Nicky Mills, Matt Cole and Ellie Jewell all played well.

The evening started with Paul & Becky winning the first mixed rubber in three games 21-12, 18-21, 21-11. From then on the Uphill players overwhelmed those from Wyvern winning all the remaining rubbers in straight games.

The B team were away to Frys A and lost a close match by five rubbers to four. The Uphill team was Ellie Jewell, Wei Chung, Becky Halfpenny, Rob Morray, Steph Hadley and Brian Hadley.

The evening started on a high for Uphill as Ellie and Wei won the first mixed, but Frys hit back winning the following two mixed. The Uphill ladies then took control with Ellie and Becky winning the first ladies rubber. Ellie and Steph then followed this up with victory and finally Becky and Steph won the third ladies rubber 16 Uphill 4-2 up in rubbers.

The men’s doubles changed this as Frys won all three rubbers for them to win a good close match. For Uphill, Ellie won all her rubbers.

The C team were at home to Mark in Division 3 of the North Somerset League and won comfortably by eight rubbers to one. The team were without captain Fiona Singleton and consisted of Mathew Valentine, Julie O’Sullivan, Robin Curry, Maureen Matthews, Glynn Davis and Emily Look.

The evening started well for Uphill as they won all the mixed rubbers and followed this up by winning the first two ladies rubbers, all in straight games.

In the third ladies rubber, Alison Kelly and Karin Harrison from Mark beat Matthews and Look to avoid the whitewash. The Uphill men then won the last three men’s rubbers in straight games. For Uphill Julie, Mathew, Robin and Glynn won all their rubbers

The final hour at the Saturday juniors club had their first internal tournament of the season. Twenty-one children in three different groups played round robins against each other.

In Group 1, the winner was Amy Sykes with 73 points, runner-up was Summer Devereux with 70. In Group 2, Luke Morgan won with 88. Runner-up was Kate Robinson with 73 and in Group 3, Billy Fear won with 62 and the runner-up was Andrew Potts with 61.
