Congresbury Under-15s won the North Someret Youth League by just one point, their second successive title.

Congresbury’s Under-15 cricketers have won the North Somerset Youth League for the second successive year - and by the narrowest of margins.

They pipped Weston to the title by just one point, winning nine of their 12 games. Bristol were third, just two points adrift.

Retaining the title for a second year was challenging since many of last year’s victorious squad had moved up to the next age group, said Congresbury’s head of junior cricket Stuart Kearns.

“To win it again with a different team demonstrates the depth throughout the junior squad,” he said.

Several of the winning team play senior cricket on a regular basis and are also in the Somerset Under-15 squad.

“This success reflects the hard work that all our junior team managers put in every week,” said cricket club chairman Geoff Wilcock, adding: “Not only is winning the title for a second year a great achievement it also means we can be optimistic about the future of cricket in the village.”

Leading wicket taker for the team was Jack Kearns with 19, followed closely by Cameron Harding with 18. Both also excelled with the bat, Cam scoring 336 runs with a highest of 102 not out and an average of 112, while Jack accumulated 229 runs with an average of 57.25.
