THE juniors at Weston Squash Club finished their season with a competitive tournament for members only. The Improvers challenge with players fairly recently introduced to the game, finished with a final between Ben Howell and Callum Cameron. Both showed plenty of agility around the court but Callum took the match 3-1The Under-13s' challenge was a close tournament with children of similar abilities battling it out, each showing their different talents and skills around the squash court. However, the two that met in the final were Michael Hosey and Nick Thompson. Michael moved fast around the court and showed some excellent squash skills, but was beaten by Nick who took the match by playing to length and dominating the tee. The Under-16s, heralding the more experienced players, finalised with a tight match between Elliot Smith and Mark Thompson. These two young men played a match in front of several supporters, exhibiting a fine example of the game with powerful shots to the back and tight drops at the front. Eventually Mark took the match in the fifth after several excellent rally points.Player of the month was awarded to Sam Stamp for his commitment to the game and the coach's award went to Elliot Smith to mark his improvement in his playing and his excellent attitude to the game. The junior sessions, which include coaching by qualified coaches, will start again in September for children aged between six and 17.
