WESTON is set to welcome The Scribes to The Brit Bar's stage this weekend.

The Bristol-based hip-hop group, managed by Stimulus, is starting their 2023 tour with the independent Weston venue being one of their first stops.

The performance will take place on Saturday, February 18.

Last year The Scribes performed across the UK including slots at Isle Of Wight Festival, Latitude Festival, Electric Picnic Festival in Ireland, Boomtown Festival, and more.

The band uses music as a form of communication and expression. Jonny Steele, a member, says: "We started way back in our teens where we naturally gravitated towards hip hop and it got us writing and making beats on Fruityloops, tape decks and karaoke mics.

"We grew up in different cultures and so we cover a lot of different styles from house party to soulful, conscious rap, old school boom bap with indie rap flourishes, it's a mixed bag.

Fellow band mate, Ill Literate, adds: "Hip hop is an incredible genre for being able to communicate and express yourself in a very direct way.

"Writing our music has helped me through some hard times in my life and it's the first thing I go to whenever I need to get something off my chest, and being able to share that with our audience is at times a beautifully cathartic experience."

The Weston venue is a special place for the band. Shaun, part of The Scribes, says: "We're Bristol boys so Weston was one of the first places we began playing in when we first started, since then the city and especially the Brit Bar has always been really supportive of us.

"During lockdown the "No Music On A Dead Planet" event in Grove Park was one of the last socially distanced performances we did and it was incredible seeing people start to come out to events again."

Shaun continues, reflecting on the return of live music events after Covid: "I remember feeling a bit anxious to see what crowds would be like post-lockdown, but when everything unlocked we were all blown away by the amount of support independent music had straight off the bat."

The band have recently announced approximately 60 tour dates for 2023.

Tickets can be purchased on the Eventbrite website.
