THE music and comedy of Christian rock musical Godspell will be brought to life next week by Worle Operatic and Dramatic Society.Following the group's stunning performance of Oliver! at The Playhouse last November, members have been rehearsing hard to bring this high energy musical of the lessons from the gospel of Matthew to the stage.It is a modern and humorous interpretation and stars Darren Brown as Jesus and Ricky Brown as Judas. The production will bring together music, mime, comedy and slapstick and will be staged at The Blakehay in Wadham Street, Weston, from April 24-26.Darren said: "We have all been working on the production since December and can't wait to finally get on the stage. It's a rock musical that is perfect for all the family. The show is lively and fun and we've all had a great time putting it together."The Grammy Award-winning score of Godspell was penned by Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz, and calls on modern musical influences including rock, gospel and ragtime and includes songs such as Prepare Ye The Way Of the Lord and Day By Day.Worle Operatic and Dramatic Society has developed steadily over the past 30 years and the company has performed all the major well-known shows. Its enthusiastic and energetic shows have captivated audiences at The Blakehay and The Playhouse since 1983.The performance starts at 7.30pm.
