I AM appalled that Sovereign Shopping Centre manager Nick Cooke and Mercury correspondent DF Courtney want to turn the Italian Gardens into another concrete jungle. More shops? Have they been around Weston lately and seen the number of empty stores there are?The beautiful rose gardens and sunken garden were lost and now the Italian Gardens are in peril. I say hands off, but no doubt I am a voice in the wilderness. The Italian Gardens belong to the people of Weston, given to the town by Henry Butt. He must be turning in his grave at all the destruction of his work and consideration for beauty. What is needed is a bus depot and a swimming pool. Not everyone has plenty of money to spend in shops.I feel very strongly about the way Weston is being spoilt and there is yet more to come - the carrot! Enough said.V HARVEY - Swiss Road, Weston
