I FELT I must write to say how much my daughter, grandchildren and I enjoyed an afternoon watching the wonderful lifeboat men swimming from Brean Down to Anchor Head. In such awful weather conditions these brave men (and lady) showed their strength of character in carrying out their sponsored swim. We felt we could not leave until the last man was safely back to Anchor Head. The wonderful spirit amongst the supporters carried us along all afternoon. Weston and the visitors are truly fortunate in having such superb people caring for their safety. On a different note, it was so sad to see that the paddling pool had totally disappeared and the dirty state of the beach at Marine Lake. What is there to attract visitors to Weston? The once superb Knightstone and its attractions has disappeared, going back many years the Rozel Bandstand has gone and I read of the disrepair of the Prince Consort Gardens. Surely money is better spent on restoring Weston on its former glory than the dreadful 'carrot'. Why on earth do the powers-that-be think it will attract visitors to the town?VAL HADLEY - Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
