I AM writing regarding the 'Solution to the badger problem'. We live on a busy main road and about three years ago we woke one morning to find a large hole in our panel fence. My husband repaired it only to wake up the next morning to find another hole in a different part of the fence. This happened several times until we found out it was a badger.I phone DEFRA and was told they are protected. They advised us to leave an entrance hole and an exit hole and we'd have no more damage to our fencing. This we did, and we've had the pleasure of watching these delightful wild animals as close as eight feet away. We feed them peanut butter sandwiches and peanuts which they love.As for attacking dogs, they only have to hear a neighbouring dog bark and they scamper away until they think it's OK to come back. So as North Somerset Council says, please try to enjoy them. We have a family of six come nearly every night and they really are a delight.MRS G HUNT - Winterstoke Road, Weston
