I WAS so sorry to read that homeless healthy cats are being turned away from the RSPCA and surprised that they are not interested in helping someone find a stray dog's owner. How very different from the old days, the shelter in Locking Road was very run down and shabby but at least stray cats were taken in, they were safe, clean and well fed until claimed or found a new home. I am not surprised they have a crisis on their hands. I understand it is now the policy of the RSPCA to care for the animals in five star accommodation, hence the cost of the building at Brent Knoll. As most of the animals are there for hopefully a short period I consider this five star accommodation is totally unnecessary. It was mentioned in the report they have 44 cat pens, no doubt with more modest accommodation as long as it is clean, warm and comfortable they would have their 100 pens.We have been members of the RSPCA for many years but after reading the report and among other information we have, we are now considering ceasing our membership donations to the society and supporting other more modest animal charities that cannot afford to waste their money and are finding it hard to survive.MARY GIBSON - Woodspring Crescent, Worlebury
