AFTER retiring from my social work with North Somerset Council, I now receive after 22 per cent is taken by the Inland Revenue, the sum of £129 per month. I have now received the latest council tax demand of £116 per month. This leaves me with the princely sum of £13 per month after years of service. This is clearly and cynically a case of being given by the right hand and have it taken away by the left.My wife and I are both of retirement age and our pensions are our sole income. We live in a semi-detached house and are both in the C tax band. However, in stark contrast, three adults under retirement age and in full time employment, live next door to us. This is a further blatant illustration of the cruelty of the council tax system. When will this injustice be acknowledged by Government and a fairer system based on ability to pay be introduced?NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
