IS IT entirely possible that the plan to pedestrianise Worle High Street might turn out to be just another pointless bad idea? Granted it is a busy place, lots of people and a heavily used road, but why subject the whole lot to a cascade of paving slabs and badly laid brickwork.Surely the money would be far better spent on teaching those small kids (and a large proportion of the teenage contingent, who seem unable to grasp the concept of 'looking both ways') better road sense. A few policemen showing grisly videos that actually make people sit up and take notice would make more sense than ruining yet another High Street. It is bad enough watching the hellish road works around the Meadow Street area, causing traffic hold ups, problems with delivery lorries and more importantly, unnecessary additions to the street furniture. Why does a crossing have to be put at the Orchard Street/Meadow Street junction? When on earth was the last serious accident there? Once again the council has taken mind altering drugs. Can we expect a town centre that resembles something out of a Beatles film from their psychedelic era?IAN BAKER - Address supplied
