THE Town Square and the Italian Gardens are important features of Weston and they must be saved. I believe the plan to expand the Sovereign Shopping Centre is merely a case of empire-building. The centre has enough trouble keeping its existing stores open

THE Town Square and the Italian Gardens are important features of Weston and they must be saved.I believe the plan to expand the Sovereign Shopping Centre is merely a case of empire-building. The centre has enough trouble keeping its existing stores open. Indeed, a number have closed in recent months.A new retail development would greatly reduce takings at current shops.The Italian Gardens and Town Square are pleasant places where people can chill out. Attractive areas like these draw tourists to North Somerset and thus boost the local economy. We must not allow Weston to be turned into a concrete jungle.ANDY PATTEN - Regent Street, Weston
