£2,000 planning compensation: As one of the district ward members for Nailsea East I feel I have to respond to articles in the local papers regarding planning permission given to a detached property built in the garden of a property in Bucklands Batch.Firstly, it was Bob Coleman and myself who principally helped Dr Nigel Hollingworth with his complaint to the ombudsman. I wrote a letter to the ombudsman as ward member fully supporting Dr Nigel Hollingworth's views that planning etiquette had been breached and that the views of Nailsea district councillors and local residents had been ignored.Secondly, comments from Liam Fox that 'North Somerset Council needs to pull its socks up' regarding planning applications and the planning system are emotive and not based on fact. Recently North Somerset Council has been singled out independently as being one of the most efficient planning authorities in the UK. Its officers in almost every case make the correct decisions to approve, refuse or refer to the planning committee. However individuals in any organisation can make a mistake or take the wrong course of action, which is what happened in this case.
