I KNOW not who writes your editorials but the one of August 25 was poor by any standard. A few minor geological boreholes have been drilled into the promenade in preparation for improved sea defence works. Both your newspaper and Conservative leader Cllr Roe are well aware of the critical timing for this work, and if you are not then you had only to ask.Throughout my short 10 months in office I have striven to keep the media fully informed about progress and problems associated with this much-needed scheme and have never once hidden any information from you. How could you have been so puerile in comment as to link this essential work with the painting of a few railings near Marine Lake? You are always ready to take the council to task, but who will take the press to task? No one; for you live at a lofty unassailable height with the ultimate advantage - the last word. When some of us work our guts out in the pursuit of improvements to our town it is one thing to be held to account by political opponents and serious public commentators but the constant barbed and uninformed nonsense emanating from a combination of your editorial composers and those sad old anoraks who write weekly to your paper leads one to wonder why any of us should bother.CLLR JOHN CROCKFORD-HAWLEYExecutive Member Strategic Planning and TransportNorth Somerset Council
