AS most of you know a new courthouse has been built on the edge of Weston at a cost of £43m - yes 43 million - whilst at the other end of town there is still no news about the Tropicana.I know there is no real connection between the two projects and finances come out of different pots but there does seem to be something wrong here. The problems of the Tropicana have been well chronicled and I know there are a number of councillors who would like the existing building to be demolished, but at a fraction of £43m a covered swimming pool could have been constructed a long time ago. If Richard Nightingale had been allowed to go ahead we would be well on our way to an attraction that most folk in town actually want.Am I being a little cynical when I suggest that Weston has given up on being a holiday resort and accepted the fact that crime is on the rise - I hope not. Very few of our townsfolk want to spend a day in court but most would like to see our seafront enhanced with a decent attraction. As someone said to me recently: 'It is criminal what is happening with the Tropicana', so looking at our stone-clad gold-plated new courthouse, who said crime doesn't pay?GEOFF MALHAM - Severn Road, Weston
