I WAS very disappointed by Alan Raynor's letter under the heading of 'sad reflection on the original purpose' dated November 17 in which he was critical of the cadet forces on parade on Remembrance Sunday. He referred to a few cadets as 'encouraging young people to glorify armaments and warfare'. What absolute rubbish!I commanded cadet corps for over 26 years, and was a member of the national committee which allowed girls to join the cadets. The rifles used on Sunday were clearly marked DP. They do not fire, they are for drill purposes only. Cadets take part in drill, map reading, camping, fieldcraft, band work and so on. Let's be pleased to see so many young people looking smart, and doing something constructive in their leisure time.JOHN CARTERAddicott Road, Weston
