I WAS saddened to hear that Weston has lost another tourist event, this time the Weston Wheels event, which drew over 20,000 people to the old airfield last year during the August Bank Holiday weekend. The event, which has been running for five years, brought extra visitors and extra revenue into the town. Many of the participants came from all over the country to attend.I wish to thank the organiser, Tristan Bacon, and all the team he assembled, for their hard work and the sponsors for providing financial support. Many residents will remember the problems before the Weston Wheels event when illegal car cruises took place in various out-of-town locations. I welcome news from the police that they are going to lay on extra patrols over the holiday weekend to ensure no illegal car cruises happen. Finally, I thank all the participants who attended over the five years.CLLR COLIN GOLLAND - Town Hall, Weston
