MY SON who is a mature 27-year-old nurse needs his car to get to placements at various hospitals in the area.He insured his car for third party, fire and theft, and paid almost £600. Unfortunately his car developed engine failure so I offered him the use of a vehicle which I was not using. It needed tax and, for this, also insurance. His insurance company agreed to add my vehicle to his policy, for just two weeks only, but at a cost of £63.After deducting a £10 administration charge, this works out at £1,378 as an annual cost, in addition to the £600 already paid.In your In the Dock feature I often note offences of driving without insurance. In the latest publication, for example, the punishments varied from 'no separate penalty' to a hefty 'fined £100'. It is not surprising, therefore, that some drivers are tempted to take a chance. Once again it seems the law abiding get penalised.RALPH JAMES - Anvil Road, Claverham
