A South West fast food chain could open a store in a prominent Weston-super-Mare town centre building.
Miss Millie's Fried Chicken wants to serve customers from the former Co-operative Bank building, on the corner of Alexandra Parade and Regent Street.
The takeaway outlet has applied to North Somerset Council for a change of use from a bank to an eat in or takeaway chicken restaurant and will install a kitchen area and customer facilities.
Plans also include the removal of existing front windows and doors to install new extraction, glazed entrance doors, windows and a stall riser.
The site lies within the Great Weston Conservation area and will become part of the pedestrianised zone which forms part of the council's £5.3million revamp of central Weston.
Last September, the three-storey bank was re-developed to accommodate a ground floor retail unit with four 'high-quality apartments' on the upper floors.
If approved, it will be the second Miss Millie's restaurant in the town centre, with one in Locking Road, less than 500 metres away, if the original takeaway remains open.
Miss Millie's plans to employ five full-time and 10 part-time staff and will open from 7am-3am Monday to Saturday, and 7am-1am on Sundays and bank holidays.
In its design and access statement, it said there will be no noise or odour pollution to neighbours.
The ground floor door entrance will be repositioned more centrally and an additional door onto Meadow Street will facilitate deliveries away from the main face of the building.
The statement added: "The general look and integrity of the complete frontage, in our opinion, will remain intact.
"The appearance of the existing property with the new glazing and entrance facade, along with the additional extraction, we feel does not directly impact on the local area but respectfully assists in the regeneration works and the aims the council is putting in place within the area.
"The property will now also be fully in use and not left standing empty for chance vandalism."
Miss Millie's opened its first takeaway in 1988 and has gone on to launch nine branches in Bristol, Weston and Cardiff.
The chain was sold for an undisclosed sum to Newco in July.
