Former primary school headteacher shows watercolour artwork in Weston gallery

A former primary school teacher who returned to watercolour painting after his wife died will put his work on display in Weston-super-Mare.
Peter Townsend’s experience in art came after he spent many years in teaching.
He started by working with stone and marble, and found he preferred wood sculptures.
Peter, aged 91, was headteacher at Milton Junior School in Weston for 20 years.
When his wife died four years ago, he filled his time with watercolours, and often paints boats and buildings.
Laura Tucker, of LT Gallery in Orchard Street, said: “His watercolours are cleanly executed with keen choices of palette, which often lead the mood or light of each painting.”
Peter Townsend’s work, including his early wood sculptures, will be on display in LT Gallery from today (Thursday) until April 24.
A drinks event will take place tonight from 5-7pm.
