Comedian Jasper Carrott cancels latest Weston dates amid heart concerns

Comedian Jasper Carrott has been forced to cancel his second Weston appearance in a matter of months after doctors told him he needs an urgent heart bypass operation.

The Birmingham funnyman aborted a previous plan to visit The Playhouse theatre in April after a fall left him nursing bruised ribs.

At the time, he vowed to rearrange his date at the High Street theatre so fans would not be left disappointed, and two new dates were added to his Stand Up And Rock tour for July 24 and 25.

Although the 72-year-old knew he was due to undergo heart surgery later in summer, doctors have now informed him the operation cannot wait that long.

In a letter to The Playhouse, Mr Carrott said: “Sadly, I have been told very recently that I need a heart bypass operation. I was hoping that the operation would take place in August, allowing me to fulfill my shows this month, but unfortunately it must now be done immediately.

“Unfortunately Weston has had a double whammy from two unrelated personal incidents, a very nasty fall back in April and now the unexpected diagnosis of heart problems resulting in urgent treatment.

“I’ve always looked forward to performing in Weston; let’s face it, it could be called Birmingham-On-Sea. I fully intend to return as soon as possible and if you have the patience to come back, I’ll really look forward to seeing you.

“Thank you for your understanding and my apologies for the disruption and inconvenience to everyone concerned.”

Playhouse representatives shared the news on Facebook this afternoon (Friday) and have vowed to contact every one of Jasper’s fans who had already bought a ticket for next week’s dates.

The Playhouse post said: “We will be in touch with all customers that have booked tickets for these dates.

“Please bear with us as this is a large volume of people, but rest assured we will get to everybody in due course.

“I’m sure you’ll all join us in wishing Jasper all the best and a speedy recovery.”

Fans who responded to the post have shared their disappointment at the cancellation, but add ‘his health is more important’ and sent their best wishes for a swift return to full health.
