Oktoberfest could come to Weston-super-Mare this year as North Somerset Council is in talks with the event organisers.

The two-day festival would be held in Weston Town Square and would include one of Europe’s largest touring beer tents.

The annual event showcases Bavarian culture with authentic Oompah music, traditional German foods and steins of beer.

The council’s seafront and events manager Darren Fairchild told the Mercury: “We are in discussions with the operators of the festival who are interested in bringing the event to Weston.”

Oktoberfest has become the world’s largest beer and folk festival.

It is traditionally held in Munich, Germany, and runs for 16 to 18 days.

It was then adapted by countries around the world, all based on the original event.

If plans go ahead, the event would take place in October this year.
