Five things to do this weekend – football and fantasy on offer in Weston

Sadly there is no three-day bank holiday weekend to enjoy, but there is plenty to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday still.

With September upon us this weekend, the last throws of summer are to be enjoyed while they last.

For a full round-up of events across North Somerset and Somerset, pick up a copy of the Weston Mercury tomorrow (Thursday).

* The world of make-believe will take over the Tropicana this weekend.

Storytellers, magic, face-painting, workshops and a whole lot more are promised on Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets, priced £3.50-4, will be available on the day and the event will run from 10.30am-5pm.

* Weston Football Club have not enjoyed the best of starts to the new league season, having registered just two points from seven matches.

But it is still early days and hopefully their campaign gets back on track on Saturday afternoon.

Eastbourne Borough are the visitors to the Woodspring Stadium, with the match kicking off at 3pm.

Supporters, rather than paying a ticket price, will be asked to make a donation of at least £1 as part of the club’s community day.

* A quiz and a curry – what could possibly go wrong?

It should be a great occasion at Kewstoke’s village hall on Saturday night as the two things come together.

Money raised from the event will support the village’s scout group.

The quiz will get underway at 7pm and it costs £5 per ticket.

Teams of up to six players are allowed and there will be a bar and raffle in operation too.

* An open garden event will be held in Worlebury on Sunday.

The fundraiser, in aid of Weston Hospicecare, will run from 2-5pm at 1 The Crescent. Refreshments will be on offer as well.

* Slightly further afield, celebrations will be held in Congresbury this weekend.

Next week sees the Tour of Britain descend on North Somerset and to mark the event a party will be held in the village on Sunday.

The pre-tour party will begin at 2.30pm at the Millennium Green, off Bristol Road.
