THE critically-acclaimed sci-fi drama, Children of Men, is still showing at the Odeon in Weston.The film is set in 2027, where mankind has lost the ability to procreate and the youngest person on earth has just died at the age of 18.Without children, Britain has plummeted into a dark and hopeless society with a military regime where immigrants are arrested in the streets, public transport is rundown and Bexhill has become a lawless camp for the homeless and outcast.Theo (Clive Owen) finds his life in danger when he agrees to help his ex-girlfriend transport the world's last remaining pregnant female to safety.The woman is the most sought after person on the planet and Theo faces threats from both the government and revolutionaries as he tries to escort the refugee to safety.Also starring Julianne Moore and Michael Caine, Children of Men paints a bleak picture of futuristic Britain.The film is directed by Alfonso Cuarun and combines dark comedy with plenty of action and intrigue.
