ONE of the world’s most popular operas has been revamped for a modern audience and is being shown during a live screening in Weston.
Georges Bizet’s Carmen, among the most frequently performed operas, is a passionate story of love, lust and betrayal on the streets of Spain during the last days of General Franco.
Full of beautiful and recognisable music, including Habanera and the Toreador Song, the story tells of Don Jose, who is seduced by fiery temptress Carmen, but loses her to another man.
The production is directed by the superb Calixto Bieito, known for his radical re-interpretation of classic operas – so this is one not to miss.
The Odeon is screening the English National Opera performance on July 1 at 7.30pm.
The Mercury has teamed up with The Odeon to offer two lucky readers the chance to win a pair of tickets to the show.
