FAMILY Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has turned his hand to a live action movie for the first time – creating a novel tale about a wise-cracking teddy bear come to life.

The film sees John (Mark Wahlberg – The Departed) make a wish in 1985 for his teddy bear to become sentient and be his best friend. One falling star later, Ted (voiced by McFarlane) is a living, breathing, swearing bear.

Fast forward to 2012 and John is muddling through a relationship with level-headed office worker Lori (played by Mila Kunis – Black Swan) and Ted is an obnoxious waster.

One shocking discovery later, and John’s life-long drinking buddy is sent packing – but is soon back in the picture which sets off a battle between childhood buddy and love interest which throws out a succession of hilarious cock-ups and personality clashes.

Not for the easily offended, Ted (certificate 15) promises much of the same edgy humour MacFarlane has become famous for with animated sitcoms Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show.

Ted is out on Wednesday.
