IN THIS eagerly awaited movie, about one of the most controversial figures in recent history, master director Clint Eastwood brings J. Edgar (15) to the big screen tomorrow (Fri).
Written by Oscar-winning writer Dustin Lance Black, the film is a fascinating portrait of J. Edgar Hoover, played by Leonardo Di Caprio, who was the face of American law enforcement for almost 50 years.
He is an ambitious young man with an ambitious mother, played by Judi Dench, and the film tells the tale of Hoover’s cunning and true force of personality, which kept him in a powerful position under seven different presidents.
As he climbs the ladder of power all the way to the top he becomes the director of the mighty FBI and responsible for operations which are still in use today.
And as his influence grows he also becomes responsible for destroying lives and transforms into one of the most reviled figures in America.
But little do his enemies know that behind closed doors, this infamous character also holds some very explosive secrets that only those closest to him know about. And his double standards could have sent him crashing back to the bottom at any time.
