Archant

A HOST of grizzled action veterans are reunited in The Expendables 2 (15), which hits cinemas today (Thurs).

The likes of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren star in the second gun-toting instalment of the action series.

And two other action heroes from years gone by - Chuck Norris and Jean Claude van Damme, as the villainous Jean Vilain -are also introduced to the melee, along with the beautiful Jet Li, as the action reaches explosive new heights.

Directed by Simon West, the film sees the elite team welcome new members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan).

When Mr Church (Willis) enlists them for a simple mission, things take a turn for the worse when one of the crew is murdered by Vilain.

Their quest for revenge takes The Expendables into out-and-out war against Vilain and his crew, who have a trump card in the form of six pounds of weapons grade plutonium.

The resultant carnage may not win an Oscar, but it is likely to be nirvana for action film enthusiasts as Stallone and his crew cut a swathe through their enemies to save the world. Again.
