A TALE of joy, sorrow and passionate friendship, all played out against the backdrop of World War One, is released in cinemas nationwide tomorrow (Fri).
Directed by Steven Spielberg, War Horse (12A) is an epic adventure set against the sweeping canvas of rural England and war-torn Europe in the early 20th century.
It begins with the friendship between a horse named Joey, and a young man called Albert (played by Jeremy Irvine), who tames and trains him.
When they are forcefully parted at the onset of the bloody conflict, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets – British cavalry, German soldiers and a French farmer and his granddaughter.
Meanwhile, Albert enlists in the British army after their parting, and has his own experiences in the horrors of war.
The story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of no man’s land.
