AN ACCLAIMED opera will be performed in Sydney Harbour – but you do not need to sit on an aeroplane for 21 hours to enjoy the production.

The Odeon, in Walliscote Road in Weston-super-Mare, will screen Aida, which has been performed in Australia, on September 15.

In the opera, Ethiopian princess Aida has been kidnapped by the ruling Egyptians.

The pharaoh’s military commander Radames falls in love with her – and must choose between his affections and his loyalty to his ruler.

The iconic Sydney Opera House will form the backdrop of Verdi’s opera.

It is the biggest show the Sydney Handa Opera has ever performed, with more than 700 people involved in the production.

The production will be screened at the Odeon on September 15 at 7.30pm.

The Mercury has teamed up with the Odeon to offer two pairs of tickets to the screening.

Usual Archant rules apply and the editor’s decision is final.

By entering the competition you agree to be contacted by Archant.

The competition closes on September 7 at 10am.
