A 1940s evening will be celebrated at Bristol’s Redgrave Theatre next month.

The Royal British Legion Bristol Poppy Appeal is set to recreate the spirit of the decade to commemorate the 75th D-Day anniversary.

There will be screenings which show appearances from the late actors George Formby, Arthur Askey, Danny Kaye, Joyce Grenfell and Home Guard volunteers.

The evening has been put together by Richard Hope-Hawkins, Peter Skellon, The RAFA Concert Band and Daisy Alexandra, who will entertain audiences with the sounds of Glenn Miller and Vera Lynn.

D-Day marks the Normandy landings during World War Two which initiated efforts to liberate Europe from Nazi Germany.

The show will be held at the theatre, in Percival Road, on June 2.

Tickets, priced £15, are available online at www.redgravetheatre.com or from the box office on 01173 157800.
