An up-and-coming singer who has earned critical acclaim will perform in Somerset next week.

Rachel Newton will perform at Bath’s Chapel Arts Centre, in Lower Borough Walls, on June 6 (Tuesday) at 8pm.

Newton received high praise from BBC Radio 2 in April, being named musician of the year at the BBC Folk Awards.

The Edinburgh-born singer is a master of traditional Scottish and Gaelic music, and was recently recognised at the Scots Trad Music Awards as the instrumentalist of the year.

Newton’s latest album Here’s My Heart Come Take It was released last year, and was well received by critics. Tracks from the album will serve as the backbone of her set list, alongside some traditional Scottish tunes.

The singer-songwriter is one of the most in-demand performers in the country at the moment, and will perform dozens of shows up and down Britain this year.

Tickets, priced £11, are available from 01225 463362 or online via
