A WESTON venue will host a free music event this July as part of a country-wide celebration of music.
The Grove Park bandstand will be one of 330 venues in the UK hosting live music to bring people from different backgrounds together to listen to local musicians.
Our Big Gig runs from July 11-14 with more than 200,000 people expected to attend venues across the UK.
The event has funding secured from the Department of Communities and Local Government and Arts Council England to showcase unique talents in unusual places.
Communities Minister Don Foster said: “This summer hundreds of thousands of people across the country are going to see fantastic local performers play a huge variety of music from around the world right on their own doorstep, sometimes for the first time, and get to know other members of their community better.”
Other events are also taking place at the Clevedon Bandstand in Elton Road, and an event in Bristol on July 11 will see acts performing on the main stage on College Green, with circus pop-up performances taking place throughout the city centre.
The individual events are run by volunteers who receive a grant towards the cost.
Our Big Gig builds on the success of previous Bandstand Marathon events, coordinated by arts organisation Superact.
Last year’s event marked the closing of the London Olympics with more than 200,000 people attending the 224 community-led performances.
Weston’s event in Grove Park is on July 14 from 1-5pm.
