THE world premier of the cantata A Better World will be performed by The Big Worle Showbiz Choir next week.
This will be the 70-strong group’s second public concert, under the direction of Bob Gibbons, and they will perform at Priory Community School in Queensway, Worle, on July 19.
Composed by Weston man Ray Saunders, the show is held together by a series of brief narrations, each with choral backing.
The cantata traces the story of two refugees and their trials and tribulations in their journey to a better life in the United States. Although A Better World is based upon Ray’s story of his ancestors it is applicable to all societies.
A total of 13 memorable songs will form one half of the concert and the other half will be well known songs from films and musicals.
Classics such as Do You Hear The People Sing from the popular Les Miserables, The Impossible Dream from Man Of La Mancha, and the Bill Withers classic Lean On Me will be performed.
The Big Worle Showbiz Choir was formed last year and rehearses every Thursday at Becket Primary School in Worle .
The show will start at 7pm and tickets, priced £6, are available by calling 07506 294741.
