Weston-super-Mare’s third ever Pride festival returns this weekend and its organisers have been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response from the community and from the acts who are scheduled to perform.

The festival – which celebrates the lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual community – is set to take place in Grove Park on Saturday from noon to 8pm.

There will also be a parade at 11am, which will begin at Knightstone Island.

A host of acts are booked to perform throughout the day, including former X Factor star Lloyd Daniels and singer Nicki French, who once represented Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Party In The Park event has gained a lot of support, including from North Somerset Council.

A spokesman for the council said: “North Somerset Council is pleased to support the third annual Weston Pride.

“Building on the success of previous years, Pride is an important opportunity to bring people together to celebrate equality and diversity across North Somerset and beyond.

“We are delighted to be a part of such a positive event.”

The parade will take place across the seafront, through the High Street and will conclude in Grove Park ahead of the day of celebration.

A spokesman for Weston Pride said: “We are overwhelmed with the response from the community and how the event has grown.

“It has been such an adventure which has become bigger for family and friends.

“It is a community event and it is amazing the acts which have decided to perform.

“We want it to be a great event for Weston and really get the community involved. That is what this is all about for us.”
