TOP sporting celebrities have signed up to take part in the new-look Weston Beach Race Enduro.
Dougie Lampkin and Enduro World Champion David Knight are the latest names from the world of motorsport to join the event, which will take place from October 5-9.
With 12 world trials titles to his name, Dougie is a British motorsport legend and has favoured the Weston Events 22 contest over a rival event in Swansea the same weekend, which is being planned by former Weston Beach Race organiser Gareth Hockey.
Dougie, who will be staging some unique trials shows during the event, said: “I have previously worked with the guys at Events 22 and I am confident they will build a great trials course on which I can put on some entertaining shows throughout the weekend.
“Although October seems like a long way off right now, I have already started to think of some ideas, which will make for some really great entertainment.”
The Mercury revealed earlier this year how Events 22 was having trouble getting the required licence for this year’s event. The Mercury contacted company managing director Matt Bates this week, but he did not return our calls.
However, on the event website he put: “The Events 22 Weston Beach Enduro is shaping up to be a massive event for every corner of the off-road world.
“We are continuing to sign up a group of ambassadors that will help shape the five-day festival. This is just the beginning as we continue to put together an unrivalled list of entertainment and we will have more exciting announcements over the coming weeks.”
Oxfordshire-based Events 22 was given permission by North Somerset Council last year to run the Weston event for three years, with an option to extend it to five. It wants to set up big marquees on the Beach Lawns, as well as interactive areas and stalls and carry out educational visits during its visit to town.
