ANOTHER hit musical has been secured for The Playhouse in Weston.
A new production of Footloose will visit the theatre as part of a UK tour next year.
Footloose is based on the 1984 musical of the same name, starring Kevin Bacon.
In the show, city boy Ren has to move to a rural backwater in America where dancing is banned.
But all hell breaks loose as Ren soon has the whole town up on its feet.
The show is packed with hit songs from the 1980s, including Let’s Hear It For The Boy, Holding Out For A Hero and Almost Paradise.
When the film was released in 1984, it became the highest-grossing February release in United States film history.
The soundtrack also ended the year-long reign of Michael Jackson’s Thriller at the top of the album charts.
The album eventually went on to sell in excess of 17 million copies worldwide.
The musical first opened on Broadway in 1998, where it ran for 709 performances, with a London production opening at the Novello Theatre in 2006.
Casting announcements for the Weston show will be made in the coming weeks.
Footloose: The Musical is based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford, and is directed and choreographed by Racky Plews, who was involved in the American Idiot show on London’s West End.
Footloose: The Musical will arrive at The Playhouse on April 25 and run until April 30.
The show is at 7.30pm on April 25, 26, 27, 28 and 30, and 8.30pm on April 29.
There will also be matinee performances at 5pm on April 29 and 2.30pm on April 30.
Tickets, priced £25-31, are available from the box office on 01934 645544 or online at www.theplayhouse.co.uk
