A Burnham-on-Sea theatre group will perform an iconic musical next month.

Re:ACT will perform West Side Story at the Princess Theatre, in Princess Street, from July 5-7 at 7.30pm with a matinee at 2.30pm on July 7.

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet and adapted to the stage by Stephen Sondheim, West Side Story is a timeless narrative which follows the journey of star-crossed lovers who dare to dream.

In an attempt to cross battle lines between two gangs, protagonists Tony and Maria are trapped in a bitter feud which forbids their love and threatens their future.

Set in the upper west side neighbourhood of New York, this musical is poignant and powerful in presenting the tragic consequence of love, revenge and hatred in a society built on conflict.

Tickets, priced £9-10, can be bought at the Princess Theatre and Arts Centre’s website at www.princesstheatreandarts or on 01278 784464.
