Female Transport

The exiling of Britons to Australia was a prevalent punishment in the wake of the UK’s mass colonisation of the world in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Female Transport, a play by Steve Gooch, tells the tale of six women on a journey to serve hard labour in Australia.

Their voyage sees them cramped into cells below deck, where societal truths are unearthed at the hands of their brutal jailer.

Director Lee Lyford will lead The Engage Theatre Company in this updated interpretation.

Performances will be given at The Ustinov Studio at Bath’s Theatre Royal tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow evening at 8pm, with a matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday .

Tickets cost £10 and are available from the box office on 01225 448844 or online at www.theatreroyal.org.uk/ustinov
