FOLLOWING three sell-out seasons at the Bristol Old Vic, hugely successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival, in the West End and on Broadway, Private Peaceful: The Concert, will provide a new look at a heart-wrenching tale.Returning to the Old Vic for one night only, on February 4, Michael Morpurgo will read from his award-winning novel to the accompaniment of songs especially written and arranged by capella trio Coope, Boyes and Simpson.Private Peaceful captures the memories of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young World War One soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn. During the night he looks back at his short but vivid past, and the battles and injustices of war that brought him to the front line.Michael Morpurgo held the role of Children's Laureate from 2003-2005, won the 1995 Whitbread Award for The Wreck of the Zanzibar, the 1996 Smarties Book Prize for The Butterfly Lion and the 2000 Children's Book Award for Kensuke's Kingdom.
