Sooty may be almost 70 years old, but he is still raring to go and will be touring the UK this autumn.

The Sooty Show on tour will be in Weston-super-Mare in October, when Sooty and Sweep will be entertaining families at The Playhouse.

Timeless characters Sooty, Sweep and Soo have announced an autumn tour following on from a hugely successful string of shows across the country earlier this year, and they are guaranteeing giggles for all the family.

Expect magic, music and mayhem with plenty of audience participation.

Sooty is a glove puppet who was created by Harry Corbett in 1948.

He went on to have a hugely popular show on CITV and remains a much-loved children’s character.

On this tour he will be accompanied by Richard Cadell, an entertainer and magician who has been Sooty’s right-hand man for the past 18 years.

He said he treats Sooty and the gang ‘like his children’ and added: “I feel I am the guardian of a wonderful British institution. I feel it is my responsibility to ensure Sooty, Sweep and Soo live on for generations.”

He said Sooty ‘can’t wait’ to be back on tour again, and added: “Not only will his fans be able to enjoy lots of laughs and fun with the nation’s favourite bear, Sooty and I will also be joined in action by his companions Sweep and Soo as the gang try to stage a talent show.

“Sooty’s got a new high-powered water pistol for this special occasion – bring your raincoats.”

The premise of the gang’s show is simple, Sooty and his friends have been asked to put on a spectacular variety show.

But, of course, nothing quite goes to plan – Sweep gets stuck in his escapology act, Soo cannot find her tap shoes and Sooty’s magic wand gets everyone in a mess.

The Sooty Show will be at The Playhouse, in High Street, on October 1. There will be performances at 11am and 2.30pm.

Tickets, priced £12 for children or £14 for adults, are available via or by calling 01934 645544.
