THE red carpet treatment beckons for the finest acting talent in the South West as the Oscars come to Weston.

The Winter Gardens will play host to the Rose Bowl Competition award ceremony as 38 amateur theatre companies stretching from Exeter to Stroud hope for their slice of glory.

A total of 44 plays, 55 musicals, two operas and four Shakespeare productions were adjudicated by a panel of judges over the past few months ahead of the awards night on October 14.

And there is plenty of home interest with the Weston Operatic Society, West Huntspill Players, Worle Operatic and Dramatic Society and the Clevedon Light Opera Club and Juniors all hoping to scoop one of the 18 gongs on offer.

Tickets, priced £26, include a hot supper and are available by post from Kathie Reynolds at Greystones, 88a Silver Street, Nailsea, BS48 2DS. A self-addressed envelope should be included.
