THE Bitches Ball is a tale inspired by the extraordinary life of the multi-talented Mary Robinson.Promising to be a fast, furious and funny performance with saucy songs, live music and cast members who look amazing in corsets, it tells the story of the high-flying 18th century courtesan, actress and prolific poet. Bold, disgraceful, beautiful and extraordinary, she was shunned by respectable society. Born in poverty, Mary rose to fame as a great stage actress and became the first mistress of the Prince of Wales before suffering paralysis at the age of 26. Undeterred, she continued to write prolifically, earning the title of The English Sappho. Coleridge called her a 'genius' for her tormented gothic verse, much of it written under the influence of opium. The Penny Dreadful Theatre Company will bring its latest production to The Rondo, Bath, on Wednesday and Thursday (Jan 24-25). Tickets, priced £8.50 are available from the box office on 01225 463362.
