THE stars of the future are once again on show at The Bristol Hippodrome this November when Bristol's own multi award-winning production company, BLOC Productions, presents the inspiring musical The King and I.
This Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is brim full of memorable music and captivates audiences today, just as it did 60 years ago when it premiered on Broadway, winning Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Actress and Best Actor.
Featuring the songs Shall We Dance, Hello Young Lovers, I Whistle A Happy Tune and Getting To Know You, it is sure to delight Bristol audiences .
The King and I is based on the 1944 novel, Anna and the King of Siam, and derives from the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, who became governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860s.
The story deals with the experiences of the British schoolteacher, who is hired as part of the King’s drive to modernise his country.
The relationship between the King and Anna is marked by conflict, as well as by a love that neither is able to express. The King and I tells a heartfelt story of love, learning and loss, an absolute must see.
The production will run from November 1-5. Tickets, priced £12-25, are available via www.bristolhippodrome.org.uk
