THE Bristol Hippodrome has announced that it will host two star-studded shows next year.
Audiences will be able to savour two very different productions in the first quarter of 2013 - The Full Monty and Oliver!.
* Neil Morrissey will star as Fagin in Oliver!, which will open in Bristol on January 22.
Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of Lionel Bart’s smash hit musical, will also star Samantha Barks as Nancy and Iain Fletcher as Bill Sikes.
Neil Morrissey is probably best known as Tony in the hugely-successful TV series Men Behaving Badly.
His other TV credits include Waterloo Road, Skins, Paradise Heights and Carrie and Barry.
Samantha Barks trained at the Arts Educational school for a year before entering I’d Do Anything, the BBC search for the new Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh’s Oliver!, where she finished in the top three.
Following the show she took part in the workshop for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies and made her stage debut as Sally Bowles in the national tour of Cabaret, before taking the classic role of Aladdin at the Theatre Royal Windsor.
Last year Samantha made her West End debut in the role of Eponine in Les Misérables and played the role again in the Les Misérables 25th Anniversary Concert at The O2 Arena.
Iain Fletcher is probably best known as DC Rodney Skase’in the long-running TV series The Bill, a role which he played for nine years.
Other television credits include Casualty, Murphy’s Law, Doctors, Family Affairs and Band of Brothers.
The sensational score of Oliver! is full of Lionel Bart’s irresistible songs including Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I’d Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah and As Long As He Needs Me.
Oliver! recently completed a two year run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London where it opened to rave reviews, sell-out business and the biggest advance sales of all time for a West End show.
It will run at The Bristol Hippodrome until February 24. Tickets go on sale on Monday, priced £17.50-54.50. They will be available via www.bristolhippodrome.org.uk
* The Full Monty will be staged at The Bristol Hippodrome from March 4-9.
In 1997 a British film about six out of work Sheffield steelworkers who had nothing to lose, took the world by storm.
And now they’re back, live on stage, only this time, for them, it really has to be The Full Monty.
Rediscover the six men, their wives and their children and what they had to do to keep it all together.
Oscar-winning writer Simon Beaufoy has adapted his smash-hit film for the stage and this brand new production will have its world premiere at the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield, in February 2013, before it tours to Bristol.
This will be Simon’s first work for the theatre.
His screen credits include 127 Hours, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Slumdog Millionaire, which earned him an Oscar, Golden Globe and a BAFTA.
The Full Monty will also feature the songs from the film by Donna Summer, Rod Stewart, Hot Chocolate and Tom Jones.
